The OB/GYN Hospitalist also assists with contraceptive counseling and services, depending on the hospital's scope of offerings, and is prepared to provide advanced care in collaboration with Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists, even when consultation may be limited to remote modalities such as telephone or video.
OB Hospitalist Physicians typically work a schedule built around 24-hour shifts, with some flexibility for 12-hour or mixed-shift models. Full-time clinicians generally work a set number of shifts within a four-week block, supporting continuity of care and fostering collaborative team dynamics. OB Hospitalist Physician (OB/GYN Hospitalist) - Summary
- Specializes in providing inpatient obstetric and gynecologic care within the hospital setting

Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care to patients, including contraceptive services as applicable
- Provide direct patient care to high-risk obstetrical and gynecologic patients
- Collaborate with Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists via telephone or video consultation when necessary
- Participate in daily Labor and Delivery board rounds, sharing insights and ensuring effective communication
- Serve as the Safety Officer in Labor and Delivery, focusing on the safety of all patients regardless of primary admitting clinician
- Support community physicians and midwives by offering clinical assistance and coverage as requested
- Work primarily 24-hour shifts, with occasional 12-hour or mixed-shift options
- For full-time roles, typically fulfill 59 (24-hour) shifts per 28-day block

Qualifications & Requirements
- Board Certified or active candidate in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN)
- Eligible for or holds a current license to practice medicine in the assigned state
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships with hospital staff, leadership, and team members
- Experience with obstetrical emergency care is preferred
