OB Hospitalist Medical Director (OB/GYN) - Summary
The OB Hospitalist Medical Director (OB/GYN) is a key leader in hospital-based obstetric care, responsible for overseeing daily operations, maintaining high-quality clinical standards, and ensuring seamless communication among team members and hospital staff. The Medical Director works closely with hospital executives and clinical operations leadership to support the growth and utilization of labor and delivery services.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead program operations to ensure delivery of high-quality obstetric care in a hospital setting.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with hospital medical staff, nursing teams, and administrative leadership to foster a collaborative care environment.
- Maintain strong working relationships with physician and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) OB hospitalist teams to support cohesive patient care.
- Report directly to the Market Medical Director (MMD), Medical Director of Operations (MDO), or Vice President of Clinical Operations (VPCO).
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to achieve the OB hospitalist program’s clinical and operational goals.
- Travel to the hospital site as needed to address operational priorities and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
- Train and mentor new clinicians in value-based care principles and the organization’s culture.
- Communicate and enforce clinical policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Manage minor physician concerns and escalate issues to higher-level leadership as appropriate.
- Partner with hospital leadership and clinical operations to identify opportunities for increasing labor and delivery service utilization.
- Participate in at least five (5) 24-hour or equivalent OB hospitalist shifts in each 28-day period, maintaining clinical excellence and program engagement.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) is required.
- Active medical license to practice in the state of assignment.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with hospital leadership, clinical teams, nursing staff, and administration.
- Significant experience and expertise in obstetrical emergency care is preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-focused approach.
