OB Hospitalist Director (OB/GYN Hospitalist Site Director)
The OB Hospitalist Director, also known as the OB/GYN Hospitalist Site Director, plays a pivotal leadership role within the obstetrics hospitalist clinical team. This position is responsible for overseeing program operations and ensuring the highest quality of care is consistently delivered to patients. The OB Hospitalist Director is integral in promoting a value-based culture and facilitating collaboration among medical staff, nursing personnel, and hospital administration. By leveraging their expertise in obstetrical emergency care and their ability to cultivate strong professional relationships, the OB Hospitalist Director helps achieve both organizational and hospital objectives in clinical and operational excellence.
This full-time leadership role requires the OB Hospitalist Director to actively participate in hospital-based clinical duties, manage physician-related issues, and provide mentorship and training to new clinicians. The director reports directly to regional and organizational leadership, such as the Market Medical Director, Medical Director of Operations, or Vice President of Clinical Operations. In addition, the OB Hospitalist Director is expected to travel to the hospital as required to address operational priorities and to maintain a visible presence within the clinical team and with hospital leadership.
The OB Hospitalist Director is also charged with enforcing clinical policies and ensuring compliance with best practice standards. This includes regular collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders to optimize labor and delivery utilization and drive continuous quality improvement. The position requires a commitment to a minimum number of clinical shifts per month, ensuring the director remains engaged in direct patient care and maintains a thorough understanding of day-to-day clinical operations. OB Hospitalist Director (OB/GYN Hospitalist Site Director) - Summary- Leadership position overseeing OB hospitalist program operations
- Ensures delivery of quality, value-based obstetric care
- Acts as a liaison between medical staff, nursing, and hospital leadership
- Balances clinical shifts with administrative responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the OB hospitalist program to maintain quality standards
- Build and sustain positive relationships with hospital medical staff, nursing, and administration
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration with the OB hospitalist physician and CNM team
- Report to senior leadership (Market Medical Director, Medical Director of Operations, or Vice President of Clinical Operations)
- Collaborate with leadership to achieve clinical and operational objectives
- Travel to the hospital as needed to address operational or clinical priorities
- Train and develop new clinicians, fostering a value-based culture
- Communicate and enforce clinical policies, procedures, and expectations
- Manage minor physician issues and escalate as appropriate
- Identify strategies to increase hospital labor and delivery utilization
- Participate in at least five (5) 24-hour or equivalent OB hospitalist shifts every 28 days

- Active medical license in the state of assignment
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills
- Significant experience in obstetrical emergency care (preferred)
- Ability to mentor, train, and lead clinical teams effectively
- Experienced OB/GYN physician with a track record of clinical excellence
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a hospitalist or similar clinical setting
- Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills
