The OB Hospitalist Director (OB/GYN) serves as a key leader within the OB hospitalist clinical team, dedicated to advancing a value-based care model for obstetrical services. This position is responsible for overseeing program operations, maintaining quality of care, and fostering collaborative relationships with hospital medical staff, nursing staff, administrative leaders, and the OB hospitalist team, including physicians and certified nurse midwives (CNMs). Reporting to the Market Medical Director, Medical Director of Operations, or Vice President of Clinical Operations, the OB Hospitalist Director (OB/GYN) plays a crucial role in ensuring clinical excellence and operational efficiency across the OB hospitalist program.
The OB Hospitalist Director (OB/GYN) actively participates in hospital activities, making site visits as needed to address operational priorities and to support the clinical team. This leadership position also includes training and onboarding new clinicians, promoting a culture of high-quality, patient-centered care, and enforcing clinical policies and procedures. The Director collaborates closely with hospital leadership and OB hospitalist program management to ensure the team delivers optimal clinical outcomes and meets both organizational and hospital goals. OB Hospitalist Director (OB/GYN) - Summary
- Lead the OB hospitalist clinical team to deliver high-quality, value-based obstetrical care.
- Oversee day-to-day program operations and ensure compliance with clinical protocols.
- Serve as the primary liaison between hospital medical staff, nursing staff, administrative leaders, and the OB hospitalist team.
- Report to regional or executive clinical leadership, supporting the achievement of both hospital and organizational objectives.
- Travel to hospital sites as needed to address operational priorities and provide on-site leadership.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage program operations to ensure the highest standard of care is delivered to patients in the OB hospitalist program.
- Build and nurture positive, collaborative relationships with hospital medical and nursing staff, as well as administrative leadership.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the physician and CNM OB hospitalist team members.
- Collaborate with Market Medical Director, Medical Director of Operations, or Vice President of Clinical Operations to align clinical and operational objectives.
- Address hospital and hospitalist operational priorities by traveling to hospital sites as required.
- Train and mentor new clinicians, fostering a value-based culture focused on patient outcomes.
- Communicate and enforce clinical policies, procedures, and expectations among all team members.
- Manage minor physician issues and escalate more complex matters to higher-level leadership as appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to increase hospital labor and delivery utilization in collaboration with hospital leadership and program management.
- Consistently work at least five 24-hour (or equivalent) OB hospitalist shifts during each 28-day period.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN).
- Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice medicine in the relevant state.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with hospital leadership, hospitalist teams, nurses, staff physicians, and corporate staff.
- Significant experience in obstetrical emergency care is preferred.
