As a Nurse Practitioner (NP) – General Surgery, you will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care to trauma and general surgery patients. Your responsibilities will include conducting advanced assessments, diagnosing and managing both acute and chronic conditions, developing and executing treatment plans, performing minor procedures within your scope of practice, and ensuring exceptional continuity of care for patients. You will also play a critical role in patient education, clinical documentation, quality improvement, and staff mentorship initiatives.
You will work collaboratively with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure that every patient receives evidence-based, compassionate care. This role requires a well-rounded understanding of surgical conditions, particularly those affecting the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and dermal systems. Nurse Practitioner (NP) – General Surgery Summary- Deliver comprehensive care for general surgery and trauma patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Contribute to quality improvement, patient education, and staff development within surgical services.
- Support the mission of providing high-quality care to service members, veterans, and their families.
- Perform advanced patient assessments, including thorough history taking, clinical evaluations, and physical examinations.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic surgical conditions, developing individualized treatment plans.
- Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory and diagnostic test results, coordinating care with other providers.
- Document ongoing assessments and collaborate with the medical staff to formulate and update care plans.
- Perform minor procedures within the scope of practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Monitor postoperative recovery and provide follow-up care for patients undergoing general or trauma surgery, including bowel surgery.
- Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, procedures, recovery, and health maintenance.
- Participate in clinical documentation, quality improvement activities, and mentorship of other clinical staff.
- Respond effectively to emergencies and provide direct patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.

- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program (NPP).
- Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in good standing.
- Current DEA registration for controlled substances in the United States.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in medical and surgical applications.
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
- Demonstrated expertise in general surgery and trauma patient management.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes affecting gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and dermal systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and adapt to a dynamic clinical environment.
- Excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety, and continuous improvement.
- Physical and mental stamina for direct patient care, including standing, walking, bending, and responding to emergencies.
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive movements for extended periods.
- Role may require operation of medical equipment and assisting with bedside procedures.
