Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA) - Summary
- Advanced practice provider role in neurosurgery within a hospital setting
- Responsible for comprehensive clinical care of neurosurgical patients
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary care teams, including neurosurgeons and nursing staff

Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including neurological exams and diagnostic reviews
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans for neurosurgical patients
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies and laboratory tests as appropriate
- Assist with preoperative and postoperative patient management, including wound care, medication management, and complication monitoring
- Perform procedures as permitted within scope of practice and hospital guidelines
- Educate patients and families on neurosurgical conditions, procedures, and postoperative expectations
- Participate in daily patient rounds with neurosurgery teams
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Collaborate with case management and allied health professionals for discharge planning
- Respond to acute changes in patient status and facilitate timely intervention
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the neurosurgery department

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with prescriptive authority
- Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program
- Certification as an NP or PA by a recognized certifying body (AANP, ANCC, NCCPA, or equivalent)
- Experience in neurosurgery, neurology, or acute care preferred
- Advanced knowledge of neurosurgical conditions, treatments, and perioperative care
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced hospital environment
- BLS and ACLS certification required
