Our neurosurgical advanced practice providers (APPs) are integral to the comprehensive continuum of neurosurgical care. The primary focus of this role is on inpatient neurosurgical management, with additional responsibilities in the operating room, first-assisting on procedures, and the possibility of limited outpatient involvement. You will work closely with neurosurgeons, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, participating in advanced clinical decision-making and patient management throughout the overnight shift rotation.
The position offers a flexible block schedule, including options such as 7-on, 7-off night shifts, designed to promote a healthy work-life balance while ensuring round-the-clock expert care for our patients. As an APP in neurosurgery, you will be empowered to assess, diagnose, and treat a diverse patient population, applying evidence-based interventions and evaluating patient outcomes with the support of both medical and nursing leadership. This role also involves timely and thorough documentation, ensuring compliance with facility and regulatory standards.

Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) - Summary
- Full-time advanced practice provider position in neurosurgery, focusing on neuro critical care and inpatient services

Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced clinical care for neurosurgery patients, predominantly in the inpatient setting (approximately 80%)
- Participate in operating room procedures and first-assist responsibilities (approximately 20% of time)
- Act as an agent of the supervising physician, providing delegated medical services within scope of practice
- Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patient healthcare needs, applying clinical interventions and evaluating outcomes
- Collaborate with medical staff to order tests, procedures, and therapies according to policy
- Communicate changes in patient status effectively and implement necessary modifications to care plans
- Respond promptly to emergencies and provide appropriate interventions based on patient needs
- Complete timely and accurate documentation in accordance with facility guidelines
- Demonstrate current knowledge of neurosurgical disease processes and perform comprehensive assessments
- Ensure appropriate referrals and coordinate transfers to other facilities as needed
- Participate in practice and/or inpatient call requirements, including potential ED/unassigned call
- Perform procedures and other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current or eligible certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in South Dakota
- Licensure through South Dakota Board of Nursing (for NP) or Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners (for PA)
- Minimum of 1 year of neurosurgery inpatient clinical experience required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills in neurosurgery
