Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) Nocturnist - Summary
- Provide advanced clinical care to neurosurgery patients during overnight hours
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes
- Utilize specialized skills and knowledge to manage acute neurosurgical cases independently
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the evaluation and treatment of neurosurgery patients throughout the night shift
- Conduct thorough patient interviews, document medical histories, psychosocial backgrounds, and overall health status
- Accurately document the delivery of care in medical records, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards
- Perform physical examinations and specialized diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, such as cast application and removal, wound suturing, and dressing changes under physician direction
- Collaborate with physicians in diagnosing medical issues, developing patient care plans, and prescribing treatments as appropriate
- Order, schedule, and/or perform laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures including urinalyses, blood tests, pregnancy tests, and x-rays
- Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient care

Qualifications & Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) program or Physician Assistant (PA) program
- Current licensure as an advanced practice nurse (NP) in Georgia by the Georgia Board of Nursing or as a Physician Assistant certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or equivalent body
- At least one year of direct advanced practice experience in neurosurgery or a high-acuity clinical specialty
- Active BLS and Healthcare Provider certifications required; ACLS may be required for certain roles
