Medical Physicist – Radiation Oncology (ABR, CAMPEP)

Advance your career as a Medical Physicist by joining a comprehensive radiation oncology team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care. This opportunity is available as a full-time, part-time, or contract-based position, allowing for flexibility to match your professional goals. Located in the Cooperstown and Oneonta, New York region, this cancer center is renowned for its patient-focused approach, commitment to innovative therapies, and collaborative environment. The organization is deeply rooted in academic medicine and values expertise, offering you a rewarding platform to impact oncology care in a setting that combines clinical excellence and work-life balance.

As a Medical Physicist specializing in radiation oncology, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of advanced radiation therapy. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team—including radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists—you will support a wide range of cancer treatments, from external beam therapy to specialized radiopharmaceutical interventions. The cancer center offers state-of-the-art facilities and employs the latest technologies such as SBRT, SRS, HDR brachytherapy, Lutathera, Xofigo, and Y-90, providing you with exposure to advanced clinical procedures and the chance to contribute to cutting-edge patient care.

Responsibilities include conducting dosimetry quality assurance, treatment planning, machine calibrations, and regulatory safety checks. You will collaborate with the clinical team to participate in case discussions, ensure compliance with industry standards, and document care using the Epic EMR system. The typical schedule is 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility for occasional early or late shifts due to equipment needs. On-call requirements are minimal, making this opportunity ideal for professionals seeking both clinical challenge and work-life balance.

This role requires completion of a CAMPEP-accredited residency in Medical Physics and a valid New York State license. Board certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) is preferred. Experience with stereotactic techniques and radiopharmaceutical therapies will be highly valued. The clinical volume covers approximately 40-50 adult oncology patients daily across a primary site and a nearby satellite center. The organization’s mission-driven culture, academic affiliations, and scenic setting make it an attractive choice for professionals looking to grow in a supportive, high-performance environment.

The region offers a vibrant lifestyle, with access to natural beauty, recreation, and cultural attractions. You will join an experienced team dedicated to delivering high-complexity cancer care, with opportunities for ongoing professional development. Flexible contract models, including locum tenens and contract-to-hire, allow you to tailor your career path according to your needs.
