Medical Office Clerk - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors at the front desk, ensuring a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
- Answer the primary office phone line, direct calls, and relay messages to the appropriate parties.
- Schedule medical appointments, verify patient eligibility, and provide general instructions or referrals as needed.
- Obtain, update, and file medical records accurately, ensuring all documentation is complete and consistent with guidelines.
- Organize and research patient records, extract necessary information, and review records for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure medical records are available prior to appointments and initiate or locate patient records as required.
- Obtain documentation requested by healthcare providers, including test results or other relevant information.
- Support additional administrative and clerical functions to maintain efficient office operations.
- Create and manage appointment schedules and templates in the patient appointment system.
- Conduct end-of-day processes to resolve any outstanding or pending appointments in the system.
- Act as a liaison with local hospitals and community healthcare organizations, including Veterans Administration facilities.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with patients, base organizations, and community resources to coordinate services and access.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- At least 12 months of experience in an office setting, preferably within a medical facility.
- Proficient typist with a minimum of 50 words per minute.
- Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for this role.
