As a vital member of the laboratory team, the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) will be responsible for performing a wide range of clinical laboratory tests across various sections, such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, serology, transfusion services, and phlebotomy. This position requires the preparation and evaluation of specimens, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments, execution of quality control procedures, and accurate reporting of results using laboratory information systems. The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) will help ensure compliance with laboratory protocols and regulatory standards while supporting specimen processing, transport, and overall laboratory operations.

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - Summary
- Perform a comprehensive range of clinical laboratory tests including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, transfusion services, and phlebotomy.
- Ensure all laboratory testing is conducted according to established protocols and regulatory standards.
- Support overall laboratory operations, including specimen processing, transport, and compliance initiatives.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver accurate and timely laboratory results.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory testing in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements across key sections of the laboratory.
- Evaluate specimens for suitability, prepare for analysis, and maintain integrity of sample properties.
- Prepare reagents and reference materials as needed for testing procedures.
- Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
- Perform quality control checks, verify instrument functionality, and identify/resolve common equipment issues.
- Document and report laboratory results accurately through the laboratory information system.
- Conduct quality assurance procedures, maintain records, and ensure compliance with Joint Commission Standards.
- Participate in ongoing training and proficiency assessments to maintain up-to-date laboratory skills.
- Prepare and package specimens for transport or mail-out, and manage biological waste disposal protocols.
- Utilize clinical automation systems including laboratory information systems and DMHRSi.
- Support all areas of the laboratory as assigned, including shipping, specimen handling, and phlebotomy.
- Assist in training new laboratory personnel prior to service commencement.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Completion of an accredited college-based laboratory technician certification program.
- Current certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from an approved organization such as ASCP or AMT.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Completion of at least a six-month rotation through all laboratory sections during training.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to lift and transport laboratory items weighing up to 20-30 lbs.
