Medical Director, Primary Care (MD/DO) Position Overview
The Medical Director, Primary Care (MD/DO) is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing primary care provider teams within multiple clinics. This full-time role is based in Milwaukee, WI and requires a board-certified physician with a background in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Geriatrics. The Medical Director will serve as both a clinical leader and a mentor, supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care and driving continuous improvement across all assigned clinics.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor primary care physicians (PCPs) and clinical staff across 3-5 neighborhood clinics in Milwaukee, WI, fostering a culture of collaboration and clinical excellence.
- Participate in clinical practice alongside colleagues to maintain a close connection with patient care and ensure best practices are followed.
- Oversee day-to-day clinical operations, working closely with Vice Presidents of Operations and other administrative leaders to ensure smooth and effective clinic management.
- Contribute to organizational strategic initiatives, including the opening of new primary care centers and supporting network development and specialty referrals.
- Fill in clinical gaps as needed to ensure continuity of patient care, especially during the launch and early growth phases of new clinics.
- Drive continuous improvement by collaborating with corporate leadership and leaders in other markets, sharing best practices, and supporting initiatives such as documentation and accurate coding, quality improvement (including HEDIS measures), utilization management, and case management.
- Support clinical compliance, policy development, and the implementation of organizational goals related to patient engagement and community outreach in Milwaukee, WI.
- Communicate and champion the organization’s mission and model of care, ensuring all staff operate in an inclusive, patient-focused environment.
- Provide input on organizational-wide goals and contribute to the ongoing development of clinical programs and quality metrics.
- Travel within the Milwaukee, WI market to support multiple clinic locations as needed.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree required.
- Board certification in Internal Medicine (IM), Family Medicine (FM), or Geriatrics preferred.
- Experience mentoring and coaching providers, with strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- 3-5 years of experience in value-based care (VBC) or managed care strongly preferred.
- Ability to lead clinical teams and work collaboratively with cross-functional partners.
- Willingness to travel between clinics within the Milwaukee, WI market as needed.
