The Medical Director – Clinical Operations (MD/DO) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the performance and development of Clinical Directors within an assigned market. Medical Director – Clinical Operations (MD/DO) – Summary
- Provides direct supervision, performance management, and training to Clinical Directors within the assigned market.
- Balances direct patient care duties with leadership and administrative responsibilities.
- Accountable for clinical outcomes, center financial performance, growth, and fostering a culture of excellence.
- Contributes to organizational strategy while supporting and developing clinical staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Clinical Directors and medical teams across multiple care centers, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and clinical standards.
- Oversee clinical operations to achieve or exceed market performance targets.
- Mentor, coach, and support the development of Primary Care Physicians (PCPs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and Medical Directors, facilitating ongoing professional growth.
- Foster a culture that aligns with organizational values, service standards, and operational excellence.
- Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of clinical staff.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with payers, specialists, community stakeholders, and hospitals.
- Monitor and address workplace concerns, supporting a positive market culture.
- Review and approve referrals, support utilization management, and provide clinical oversight as needed.
- Assist with market quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- Analyze and report on clinical metrics, supporting continuous quality improvement.
- Participate in leadership training programs and facilitate training for new practitioners.
- Deliver direct patient care as a PCP for a portion of time, managing a small panel of patients with complex chronic conditions.
- Travel locally, regionally, and nationally up to 30% of the time to support centers and attend meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements
- MD or DO in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics, or a related specialty required.
- At least 2 years of clinical experience required; 3 years preferred.
- Board eligibility required; board certification in a relevant specialty preferred.
- Active medical license to practice medicine in the relevant state.
- Experience as a Medical Director or equivalent in a value-based care model, preferably with Medicare or Medicaid patient populations.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably managing multiple care centers.
- Experience in population risk management and chronic disease care management.
- Excellent clinical skills and proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).
- Strong analytical, conflict management, and relationship-building skills.
- Spoken and written fluency in English.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make effective decisions.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
