We are currently seeking a dedicated Medical Coder (CPC, RHIT, CCS-P) to join our team on a full-time, remote work basis. This role is integral to our efforts in supporting the Defense Health Agency’s operations, focusing on accurate professional and institutional coding for outpatient primary care encounters. As a member of our coding team, you will play a crucial part in maintaining coding accuracy and quality standards that directly impact patient care and healthcare outcomes.

Medical Coder (CPC, RHIT, CCS-P) - Summary
- Full-time, remote coding role supporting the Defense Health Agency.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Review clinical documentation to identify and resolve inconsistencies, ambiguities, or discrepancies impacting coding accuracy or quality of patient care.
- Accurately assign Evaluation & Management (E&M) codes, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes (including modifiers and units of service), ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes for outpatient encounters, and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes as applicable for inpatient records.
- Utilize MHS GENESIS to remotely access patient records and assign appropriate codes.
- Meet or exceed established productivity benchmarks while maintaining a minimum of 97% coding accuracy standard.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to clarify documentation and ensure compliant code assignments.
- Support continuous process improvement and adhere to all regulatory and compliance standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of one year of medical coding experience is required.
- Associates degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a biological science; OR university certificate in Medical Coding; OR completion of a medical training program beyond apprentice level (e.g., medical technician, hospital corpsman, medical service specialist, or hospital training) under professional medical supervision through the U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. Maritime Service.
- At least one current certification from AAPC or AHIMA is required, such as:
- AAPC: Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- AHIMA: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist Physician (CCS-P)
- Preferred certifications include AAPC Certified Evaluation and Management Coder (CEMC), NAMAS Certified Evaluation and Management Auditor (CEMA).
- Experience with Department of Defense or Veterans Administration medical coding is preferred but not required.
- Experience with MHS GENESIS coding is a plus.
