The Medical Coder (CPC, CCS, RHIT) position offers the opportunity to work remotely, with flexible scheduling options that support work-life balance. You will be responsible for performing advanced professional and institutional coding for a diverse array of healthcare encounters, including outpatient specialty clinics, day surgeries, emergency department visits, and observation services.
In this role, you will leverage your expertise in medical coding to ensure accurate and compliant code assignment across multiple coding sets, including Evaluation and Management (E&M), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), ICD-10-CM, and ICD-10-PCS. You will also utilize the Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS electronic health record platform to access and code patient records, maintaining the highest standards for accuracy, quality, and productivity.

Medical Coder (CPC, CCS, RHIT) - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Review clinical documentation to resolve inconsistencies and ensure coding accuracy
- Assign appropriate codes for E&M, CPT, HCPCS (with modifiers and units), ICD-10-CM, and ICD-10-PCS as applicable
- Utilize MHS GENESIS to remotely access and code patient records
- Meet or exceed productivity benchmarks and maintain a minimum 97% coding accuracy
- Apply advanced coding knowledge across outpatient specialty clinics, day surgeries, emergency department, and observation services

Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate’s degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a biological science; or university certificate in medical coding; or completion of a medical training program beyond apprentice level (such as medical technician, hospital corpsman, medical service specialist, or comparable training under professional medical supervision through the U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. Maritime Service)
- Medical coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA (such as CPC, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CEMC, CEMA, CIC, or COC)
- Minimum of 2 years of professional medical coding experience
- Experience coding outpatient specialty clinics, emergency department, observation services, or day surgeries
- Preferred: DoD or Veterans Administration coding experience; experience with MHS GENESIS system
