Medical Authorization Specialist - Summary
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, both in person and over the phone, ensuring a positive and seamless experience throughout the authorization process.
- Utilize your expertise in CPT and ICD-10 coding to accurately process and submit authorizations for orthopedic procedures and surgeries.
- Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information using advanced healthcare technology platforms, including CS-Link and Epic.
- Collaborate with providers, patients, and insurance representatives to facilitate communication and ensure all necessary documentation is submitted and processed efficiently.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end process of medical authorizations, with a focus on orthopedic procedures, ensuring all submissions are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate regularly with patients to gather necessary information, answer questions, and provide updates regarding the status of their authorizations and appointments.
- Work closely with medical staff and insurance companies to verify benefits and coverage, resolve discrepancies, and obtain pre-certifications as required.
- Schedule patient appointments, process referrals, and maintain thorough documentation in compliance with departmental guidelines and regulations.
- Maintain an organized and clean work environment, adhering to all departmental policies and procedures to support a safe and efficient workplace.
- Handle Work Comp claims and coordinate with various insurance types, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the medical authorization landscape.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of two years of experience working with CPT codes and medical authorizations, specifically for orthopedic procedures and surgeries.
- Solid familiarity with ICD-10 coding and previous experience in an outpatient clinic or medical office environment.
- Proven ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience using CS-Link and Epic healthcare information systems is highly preferred.
- Prior experience handling Work Comp claims is a plus.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
