Medical Assistant (RMA) Job Overview
The Medical Assistant (RMA) plays a vital role in supporting healthcare providers and ensuring smooth clinical operations at Hope Medical Clinic. This full-time position involves a blend of clinical and administrative responsibilities, providing essential care and assistance to both patients and medical staff. As a Medical Assistant (RMA), you will be the first point of contact for many patients, making strong communication and organizational skills essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Measure vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, height, and weight, for each patient visit.
- Obtain comprehensive medical histories by interviewing patients about their current and past medical conditions, medications, and allergies, accurately recording this information in patient charts, and promptly alerting the physician to any significant findings.
- Perform electrocardiograms (ECGs) as directed by the healthcare provider to assist in patient diagnosis and management.
- Assist physicians during medical examinations and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Administer injections as prescribed, following all safety protocols to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Coordinate specialist referrals and manage the prior authorization process with insurance providers as required.
- Communicate prescription information to pharmacies by calling or faxing as directed by the physician.
- Change dressings and ensure exam rooms are consistently stocked with necessary supplies to maintain efficient workflow.
- Clean and maintain medical instruments and equipment in accordance with clinic protocols to ensure safety and compliance.
- Relay physician instructions and educational information to patients, ensuring understanding and adherence to care plans.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Schedule and set up patient appointments, coordinating with clinical staff to optimize patient flow and minimize wait times.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records for all patients, ensuring privacy and security of sensitive health information.
- Monitor and track patient flow throughout the clinic to support an efficient patient care process.
- Answer and make phone calls related to scheduling, patient inquiries, and other clinic operations as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong multitasking abilities to manage both clinical and administrative tasks efficiently during busy periods.
- Ability to prioritize workload and respond to changing demands in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Excellent collaboration and cooperation skills to work effectively with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff.
- Proficient computer literacy and comfort with healthcare technology, including electronic medical records and practice management software.
