Medical Assistant (MA) - Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for a broad spectrum of duties, including direct patient care and administrative tasks. The role involves measuring vital signs, obtaining medical histories, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. Duties & Responsibilities
- Measure and record patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, breathing rate, temperature, height, and weight.
- Obtain comprehensive medical histories by interviewing patients about their medical conditions, medications, and allergies, documenting findings accurately in patient charts, and promptly alerting physicians to pertinent results.
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKG/ECG) as needed and assist physicians during exams and medical procedures to ensure patient comfort and procedure efficiency.
- Administer injections as directed by the physician in a safe and accurate manner.
- Facilitate specialist referrals and manage prior authorizations to support patient access to necessary specialty care.
- Call or fax prescriptions to pharmacies following provider instructions, ensuring prescription accuracy and patient safety.
- Restock exam room supplies regularly to maintain readiness for patient care and clinical procedures.
- Clean and maintain medical instruments and equipment according to established protocols to ensure safety and infection control.
- Communicate physician instructions to patients clearly, providing necessary education and follow-up information as needed.
- Schedule and set up patient appointments, ensuring efficient patient flow and minimal wait times.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR), ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Monitor patient flow throughout the clinic to optimize operational efficiency and support a positive patient experience.
- Answer and make phone calls to patients, pharmacies, and other medical offices as required.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant (MA) training program preferred.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) is an asset.
- Proficiency in using computers and electronic medical records systems.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
