Medical Assistant (MA) - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilize medical office computer applications for scheduling and record-keeping
- Answer patient inquiries via telephone and in-person greeting
- Update and maintain patient medical records
- Complete coding and insurance forms as required
- Arrange hospital admissions, laboratory services, and prior authorizations
- Obtain and document comprehensive medical histories and medication lists
- Explain treatment procedures and instructions to patients
- Prepare patients for examination by healthcare providers
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for testing
- Perform basic laboratory tests as directed
- Instruct patients on medication regimens and dietary needs per physician’s orders
- Prepare and administer medications, including injections and immunizations, as directed
- Authorize prescription refills and review OARRS reports as required
- Obtain EKGs and assist with minor procedures (e.g., suture removal, dressing changes, ear flushes)
- Manage and update inventory of medical supplies and vaccines
- Stock exam rooms and supply carts regularly
- Prepare schedules and records for next-day operations
- Complete and respond to phone and office messages
- Follow up on open patient orders and ensure completion of necessary procedures
- Obtain prior authorizations for tests, procedures, or medications as needed
- Maintain and update Medical Assistant folders and yearly wellness packets for insurance groups
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or healthcare providers

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program preferred
- Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) is an advantage
- Proficiency in medical office software and electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
