Medical Assistant (MA) Job Overview
Gulf Coast Physician Partners is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant (MA) to join our dynamic healthcare team. As a valued team member, you will support physicians and mid-level providers in delivering high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately take and record patient vital signs, perform medication reconciliation, update allergies, and gather patient history for entry into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Collect and prepare necessary documents to assist physicians and mid-level providers in providing comprehensive patient care.
- Support physicians and mid-level providers during patient examinations and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety at all times.
- Respond to patient inquiries through the patient portal, over the phone, and in-person to ensure timely and effective communication.
- Process medication refills through ePrescribe, call-in, and printed prescriptions as directed by providers.
- Obtain prior authorizations for prescribed medications by coordinating with insurance companies and pharmacies to facilitate patient access to necessary treatments.
- Perform organizational duties such as maintaining and organizing the sample closet, ordering both medical and laboratory supplies, and ensuring inventory is up to date for daily clinical operations.
- Conduct daily Transitional Care Management calls to follow up with patients and ensure continuity of care after discharge or transitions between care settings.
- Communicate laboratory and procedure results to patients by sending out letters as directed by the clinical team.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date EHR documentation in compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations and internal policies.
- Actively participate in regular team meetings and training sessions to stay current on best practices, clinical protocols, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program preferred.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and strong computer skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to all HIPAA regulations.
