Mechanical Shop Assistants are responsible for a broad range of support activities, including cleaning, organizing, inspecting, and packaging parts. The role also requires light assembly work, basic janitorial duties, and the use of various shop equipment. Successful candidates will be trained on several job-specific processes such as pressure checking and hardness testing diesel heads, as well as the safe operation of packaging machines and hand tools. In addition, candidates may be asked to drive a company pickup truck to transport parts and materials, provided they meet the necessary qualifications.

Mechanical Shop Assistant - Summary
- Support supervisors and team members in daily shop operations
- Assist with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining shop equipment and workspaces
- Handle, inspect, and prepare automotive and mechanical parts for various processes
- Engage in packaging, assembly, and light maintenance activities as needed
Duties & Responsibilities
- Disassemble, organize, wash, and prep mechanical and automotive parts
- Media blast automotive parts as directed
- Perform janitorial tasks, including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, emptying trash, and cleaning CNC and other machinery
- Package parts using a packaging machine (training provided)
- Count and verify large quantities of parts received from vendors
- Build wooden crates using a saw and cordless drill
- Conduct pressure checks and hardness tests on diesel heads (training provided)
- Inspect and thread-check heads as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow general safety regulations and best practices in the shop environment
- Perform light assembly work when required
- Operate company pickup truck for parts delivery and pickup, as applicable

Qualifications & Requirements
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and following instructions in English
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs. safely; use of dolly, cart, or buddy system for heavier loads
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good eyesight and attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain an orderly workspace
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Clean driving record (for company vehicle operation)
- Ability to pass a drug test and background check prior to employment
- Experience with calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, and bore gauges is a plus
- Familiarity with torque wrenches up to 250 ft lbs is a plus
- Forklift operation skills are an advantage
- Background in automotive or mechanical environments is beneficial
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and move about the facility
