The Mechanical Project Manager position is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the successful execution of mechanical construction projects within the commercial and industrial sectors, including data center and hospital construction. This full-time role, based in Dallas, TX, focuses on providing comprehensive management direction for one or multiple projects, ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and according to contract specifications. The Mechanical Project Manager works closely with field teams, superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to deliver high-quality results and maintain lasting business relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of mechanical construction projects, from initiation to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Coordinate procurement and management of equipment and subcontracts, aligning these resources with project schedules and funding requirements.
- Monitor and project job costs accurately, maintaining detailed billing records and adhering to established schedules.
- Provide technical support and leadership to field staff, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and productivity on project sites.
- Work collaboratively with the project's superintendent to manage daily project activities, ensuring production goals are met.
- Develop and sustain long-term customer relationships to support communication and future business opportunities.
- Ensure projects are constructed to the highest standards of quality, on schedule, and within financial guidelines.
- Review and verify project estimates, ensuring accuracy in job cost system entries and initial cost projections.
- Conduct thorough pre-job and ongoing planning meetings to communicate contract terms, schedules, and project requirements to all team members.
- Document the outcomes of planning meetings and follow up to guarantee completion of action items.
- Maintain up-to-date project schedules and ensure personnel assignments are synchronized with project needs.
- Execute subcontract and equipment buy-outs strategically to support project timelines and budget constraints.
- Visit job sites regularly to inspect work progress, address any project or contract issues, and resolve challenges as they arise.
- Investigate and implement corrective actions for potentially serious job issues to maintain project integrity.
- Manage and process scope changes efficiently, ensuring all adjustments are incorporated into the current project scope.
- Prepare material takeoffs, estimates, and pricing for changes to project work scope as needed.
- Lead and participate in project meetings, adhering to customer and company schedules and guidelines.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience managing mechanical construction projects, with renovation experience considered a plus.
- Proven expertise in negotiating construction change orders and conducting project presentations.
- Ability to address complex, multi-faceted problems using effective problem-solving methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver professional presentations.
- Proficient in interpreting contractual documents, plans, specifications, schematic diagrams, and isometric drawings.
- Competence in both technical and business correspondence.
- Experience with computerized job cost accounting systems is required.
- Solid skills in Microsoft Office, with intermediate proficiency in Excel as a minimum standard.
- Understanding of financial models related to fixed price, cost-plus, and unit rate/price contracting.
- Ability to work from a job trailer, on-site, or off-site office setting, and to regularly walk and inspect active construction sites with associated physical demands.
- Flexibility to be on-call as needed to support 24/7 client operations, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
