Mechanical Project Engineer Position Overview
A Mechanical Project Engineer plays a critical role in the construction industry, focusing on the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical systems within commercial and industrial projects. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed project estimating, including take-offs and analysis, to ensure accurate project planning and resource allocation.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, with a focus on effective manpower coordination for optimal project delivery.
- Manage the process for Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring timely communication and resolution of project queries.
- Prepare comprehensive submittal packages and oversee the flow of contractor-provided submittal data necessary for project success.
- Assist in the population of project forms and documentation, maintaining accuracy and completeness throughout the project lifecycle.
- Generate and submit project progress billings, supporting the financial health and reporting requirements of ongoing work.
- Work closely with the technical team to provide analysis, troubleshooting, and solutions for HVAC air equipment, piping equipment systems, and plumbing equipment issues.
Required Skills and Experience
- Solid understanding of HVAC and plumbing design, as well as mechanical system operations in commercial and industrial environments.
- Familiarity with the sequence of operations in construction projects, including estimating and workflow management.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC system testing procedures and the ability to interpret ASHRAE data and guidelines.
- Proficiency in project scheduling software such as MS Project, and experience with databases like MS Access or equivalent systems.
- Advanced skills with MS Excel and MS Word for documentation, analysis, and reporting.
- Efficient use of the internet for research, communication, and project management tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities, essential for collaboration across departments and with external partners.
- Organizational skills required for handling and archiving technical data, promoting efficient project documentation and retrieval.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Alternatively, a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Construction Project Engineer in a related industry.
- Demonstrated experience with project administration, scheduling, productivity analysis, cost control accounting, and procurement of equipment and materials.
