Mechanical Project Engineer Position Overview
The Mechanical Project Engineer plays a crucial role in managing and coordinating mechanical construction projects, specifically those involving HVAC and plumbing systems, in a dynamic full-time capacity. The Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing project planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring all technical and administrative tasks are completed in compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute project estimating, including take-offs and detailed cost analysis, to support project bids and ensure accurate budgeting.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, including manpower allocation, to ensure timely project delivery and resource management.
- Manage the Request for Information (RFI) process, facilitating clear communication among project stakeholders to resolve technical queries and support project progress.
- Prepare comprehensive submittal packages and manage the flow of contractor-provided submittal data, ensuring timely review and approval of project materials and equipment.
- Assist in the population and maintenance of project forms and documentation, supporting effective project administration and compliance with company protocols.
- Prepare and submit accurate project progress billings in accordance with contract requirements and company financial guidelines.
- Support technical analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving related to HVAC air equipment, HVAC piping equipment systems, and plumbing systems, leveraging industry expertise to resolve issues efficiently.
Qualifications and Skills
- Basic working knowledge of HVAC and plumbing design as well as system operations, with familiarity in commercial and industrial construction sequences.
- Understanding of construction estimating principles and experience with testing procedures for HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of ASHRAE data and guidelines to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Proficiency in project scheduling software, such as MS Project, and experience with database programs including MS Access.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word, as well as strong internet research capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft technical documents and correspond effectively with project teams and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills, with the capability to handle and archive technical data efficiently.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field is recommended.
- Alternatively, candidates with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience as a Construction Project Engineer will be considered.
- Demonstrated experience in project administration, project scheduling, productivity analysis, project cost control accounting, and procurement of equipment and materials is highly desirable.
