Mechanical Project Engineer Position Overview
The Mechanical Project Engineer position is a full-time opportunity for skilled professionals with a background in mechanical systems, HVAC, and project management. This role is essential in supporting the successful execution of mechanical and industrial system installations, with a focus on commercial HVAC and plumbing projects. As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will work within a collaborative team environment to ensure that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to the highest safety and quality standards. Based in San Diego, CA, this role offers the chance to contribute to projects in a region known for its dynamic commercial and industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed project estimating, including take-off and thorough analysis of project requirements.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, including manpower planning to ensure timely project delivery.
- Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring clear and accurate communication between all project stakeholders.
- Prepare comprehensive submittal packages and manage the flow of submittal data provided by contractors.
- Assist with the population of forms and documentation required throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare project progress billings, ensuring accurate and timely financial tracking of project milestones.
- Support technical analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving efforts related to HVAC air equipment, piping equipment systems, and plumbing equipment.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Basic working knowledge of HVAC and plumbing design as well as system operation, with an understanding of commercial and industrial construction sequences.
- Familiarity with construction estimating and testing procedures for HVAC systems.
- Experience applying ASHRAE data and guidelines in project planning and execution.
- Proficiency in project scheduling software, such as MS Project, and experience using MS Access or other database programs.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word, as well as strong internet research skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to organize and archive technical data effectively.
- Recommended qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline (such as Civil, Industrial, or Structural Engineering), and/or at least five years of industry experience as a Construction Project Engineer.
- Ability to demonstrate experience in project administration, scheduling, productivity analysis, cost control accounting, and equipment and material procurement.
