Mechanical Project Engineer Job Overview
The Mechanical Project Engineer role is integral to the design, development, and management of airborne and industrial sensor products. As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will work on a diverse range of electro-mechanical and MEMS-based products, playing a vital role in both new product development and sustaining engineering activities. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute 3D design of electro-mechanical and MEMS piezoresistive switches, sensors, transmitters, and related accessories for airborne and industrial fluid power and pneumatic systems.
- Provide sustaining engineering support, including managing Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Engineering Change Requests (ECR) for existing sensors, castings, parts, and accessories to ensure product quality and continuous improvement.
- Analyze and review customer specifications to develop detailed technical proposals that meet or exceed requirements, ensuring customer satisfaction and technical accuracy.
- Design and build prototypes, conduct testing, and validate the operational performance of new or improved sensor and accessory designs.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and documentation to support design decisions, project milestones, and compliance requirements.
- Participate in customer design reviews, offering technical insights and fostering strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Create detailed 3D models, part drawings, and assembly documentation for new product designs using SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software.
- Conduct research to identify and evaluate new vendors for hardware components and outside processes, ensuring that new products meet technical and cost objectives.
- Develop and implement new processes and design practices to support innovative product development and enhance engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including peers, the machine shop, and manufacturing engineers, to drive efficiency improvements and cost reduction in both development and production phases.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience with 3D mechanical design, preferably using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, MEMS sensors, and fluid power or pneumatic systems is advantageous.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and collaborating with customers and team members.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
