Mechanical Estimator (Plumbing/HVAC Estimator) - Summary
- Responsible for detailed and accurate project estimation in plumbing and HVAC disciplines.
- Supports project acquisition by building relationships with general contractors in San Diego, CA.
- Plays a key role in project planning, budgeting, and progress monitoring for mechanical construction projects.
- Utilizes industry-standard estimating software and works in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain regular communication with pre-construction departments of targeted general contractors to identify new business opportunities.
- Evaluate project opportunities to align with company goals, ensuring pursuit of projects with optimal success potential and profitability.
- Review all project-related documents including plans, P&IDs, specifications, and contracts to identify impacts and requirements prior to preparing estimates.
- Operate computer-based takeoff and estimating systems, ensuring reproducibility and accuracy in estimates.
- Assist in sales activities, including developing scope of supply, preparing and delivering presentations, participating in negotiations, and supporting project closure.
- Collaborate with project managers to prepare budgets for initial project setup and for any priced change orders.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings, presenting detailed scopes of work, budgets, and identifying critical requirements and limitations.
- Monitor ongoing project progress, comparing actual production rates to bid rates and helping adjust project strategies as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of project forecasts, claims, and schedules as required to support effective project management.
- Support productivity tracking of labor units and assist in identifying and resolving any scope deviations or performance issues.
- Contribute to weekly staff meetings and collaborate on alternate plans when actual project performance does not meet budgeted targets.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in plumbing and/or mechanical estimating.
- Strong computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office products, including Excel.
- Experience using Trimble Autobid or other estimating software platforms related to sheet metal and/or piping estimation.
- Preferred qualifications include field/craft experience and a solid understanding of plumbing, piping, ductwork, and equipment installation.
- Familiarity with plumbing, piping, and sheet metal standards and codes is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or a related field is a plus.
