The Mechanical Estimator, also known as an HVAC/Plumbing Estimator, plays a crucial role in the preconstruction process of commercial, industrial, and multifamily building projects. Mechanical Estimator (HVAC/Plumbing Estimator) - Summary
- Deliver accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for HVAC and plumbing systems.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Review and interpret mechanical and plumbing plans, specifications, and scope documents to develop detailed estimates.
- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment.
- Solicit and assess quotes from subcontractors and vendors, ensuring compliance and competitive pricing.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors throughout the bidding and budgeting process, fostering open communication and knowledge sharing.
- Develop bid proposals, project budgets, and value engineering alternatives to maximize project value for clients.
- Maintain and track historical cost data for ongoing cost analysis, benchmarking, and continuous improvement of estimating procedures.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks as required to gather project-specific information and insights.
- Assist in transitioning projects from estimating to operations teams, ensuring a smooth handoff and clear documentation.
- Maintain the estimating database and organize documentation for future reference and compliance purposes.

Qualifications & Requirements
- 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in estimating HVAC and/or plumbing systems for commercial or industrial projects.
- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems, including installation methods, materials, and building codes.
- Proficiency with industry-standard estimating software such as Bluebeam, QuickPen/Trimble, FastEST, or PlanSwift.
- Skillful use of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Procore or similar construction management platforms is advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and related documents.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, supporting clear and effective collaboration.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, capable of managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Relevant trade certifications or journeyman-level experience considered a plus.
