Mechanical Estimator (HVAC/Plumbing Estimator)
The Mechanical Estimator (HVAC/Plumbing Estimator) plays a pivotal role in the success of commercial, industrial, and multifamily construction projects. As a full-time team member, you will be responsible for developing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical and plumbing systems. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and a proven track record in evaluating project documentation, blueprints, and specifications to deliver precise bids and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret mechanical and plumbing plans, specifications, and scope documents to understand project requirements.
- Prepare detailed and accurate quantity takeoffs, as well as cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment associated with HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and vendors, ensuring proposals meet the required scope and compliance standards.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors throughout the bidding and budgeting process.
- Develop and submit bid proposals, establish project budgets, and generate value engineering alternatives when appropriate.
- Track and analyze historical data to support cost analysis and benchmarking for future projects.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks as needed to gather essential information for the estimating process.
- Assist in the project handoff process, ensuring a smooth transition from the estimating phase to operations teams.
- Maintain and update the estimating database and related documentation for reference in future projects.
Qualifications and Requirements
- 3–5+ years of experience estimating HVAC and/or plumbing systems, preferably within the commercial construction sector.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical systems, current building codes, installation methods, and materials.
- Proficiency in industry-standard estimating software such as Bluebeam, QuickPen/Trimble, FastEST, or PlanSwift.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), and experience with construction management platforms such as Procore is a plus.
- Ability to interpret and analyze construction drawings, technical documents, and specifications accurately.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant trade certifications or journeyman experience are advantageous and considered a plus.
