Mechanical Estimator - Summary
- Responsible for estimating and bidding mechanical construction projects, including plumbing and HVAC systems.
- Collaborates with clients, general contractors, and internal teams to ensure accurate and thorough estimates.
- Utilizes computer-based takeoff and estimating software to enhance accuracy and reproducibility of estimates.
- Supports the full project lifecycle, from pre-construction through project closeout.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Regularly contact and network with pre-construction departments of targeted general contractors to identify new project opportunities.
- Evaluate project opportunities for alignment with company business models and profitability goals.
- Review plans, P&IDs, specifications, and contracts before preparing estimates to identify potential project impacts and risks.
- Operate computer-based takeoff and estimating systems to generate reproducible and accurate results.
- Assist in selling projects by developing detailed scopes of work, preparing presentations, and participating in negotiations and closings.
- Contribute to initial project budget setup and support project managers in preparing priced change order work.
- Participate in kickoff meetings to present scope, work plans, budgets, and highlight critical project requirements or limitations.
- Monitor project progress and compare actual production rates to bid estimates for ongoing accuracy and performance tracking.
- Assist in preparing project forecasts, claims, and schedules as required.
- Support labor productivity tracking and participate in weekly staff meetings to identify scope deviations and develop corrective action plans as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in plumbing and/or mechanical estimating.
- Strong computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office products such as Excel.
- Proficiency in Trimble Autobid or other estimating software platforms related to sheetmetal and piping.
- Field or craft experience is preferred, offering practical insights into project execution.
- Understanding of plumbing, piping, ductwork, and equipment installation.
- Knowledge of relevant standards and codes for plumbing, piping, and sheetmetal work.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or mechanical engineering is preferred.
