Mechanical Estimator Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis in Dallas, TX. The Mechanical Estimator plays a crucial role in preparing accurate quantity takeoffs, analyzing project plans and specifications, and supporting the delivery of competitive bids for commercial construction projects. This position is ideal for professionals with a strong foundation in mechanical and plumbing systems, as well as a commitment to delivering precise, timely estimates in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs and review project plans and specifications to fully understand the scope of each project.
- Generate comprehensive takeoff reports for the estimating team and verify their accuracy to ensure reliable bid submissions.
- Monitor addenda, scope changes, and project breakouts, ensuring all modifications are processed promptly and accurately reflected in estimates.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams regarding project specifications, scope of work, reporting requirements, value engineering opportunities, timelines, and other bid-related matters.
- Input and verify specifications summary data in takeoff software, maintaining up-to-date and accurate records throughout the estimation process.
- Identify any missing pricing information related to labor, materials, or project scope, and take initiative to resolve discrepancies.
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to obtain necessary pricing data, ensuring all bid components are complete and competitive.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in plumbing or sheet metal within commercial construction.
- Strong understanding of commercial building codes and trade-specific regulatory requirements.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, isometrics, and detailed project specifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, to manage data and create reports.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a setting with shifting priorities.
Work Environment
- This Mechanical Estimator position is based in both office and jobsite locations in Dallas, TX, supporting a large and distributed workforce.
