The Mechanical Estimator plays a pivotal role within the commercial pre-construction and estimating team, providing expertise in mechanical systems and construction cost estimation. This is a full-time opportunity based in Dallas, TX, ideal for professionals with a strong background in mechanical contracting and a passion for delivering accurate, thorough estimates for a variety of building projects. The Mechanical Estimator's work is essential to the successful planning and execution of construction projects, ensuring that all bids and proposals reflect precise labor, material, and equipment costs, while aligning with customer requirements and industry standards.
As a Mechanical Estimator, you will report directly to the Chief Estimator and collaborate closely with both the Operations Team and the estimating support staff. Your primary responsibilities will include managing the bid recap process from inception to completion, drafting comprehensive proposal letters, and ensuring the timely and accurate submission of all bid forms and breakouts. You will actively participate in bid review meetings, monitor project addenda and scope changes, and integrate these updates into the overall estimate to maintain the highest level of accuracy.
Within this role, you will communicate regularly with internal teams to address issues related to project specifications, scope, value engineering, and deadlines. Your technical acumen will be called upon as you verify system specifications, conduct quantity takeoffs for equipment and fixtures, and review project plans to ensure a full understanding of the project scope. Leadership skills are essential, as you will lead take-off teams in project reviews, guiding them to achieve complete and accurate take-offs for every project.
Vendor and subcontractor coordination is another key aspect of the Mechanical Estimator position. You will review scope letters for accuracy, maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, and ensure all required pricing and breakouts are obtained to complete bids efficiently. Your insight into market conditions, customer needs, and competitor capabilities will inform your estimates and help the company remain competitive in the industry.
The Mechanical Estimator is expected to develop, monitor, and refine departmental processes and procedures to maximize productivity while minimizing risk. Working under general supervision, you will exercise significant independence, making proactive decisions that support departmental and organizational goals. Your contribution will also extend to supporting sales and marketing objectives by ensuring that the estimating department's capacity and capabilities align with the company's growth ambitions.
