Mechanical Estimator Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our accomplished estimating team on a full-time basis in Dallas, TX. As a Mechanical Estimator, you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction process, collaborating closely with the Chief Estimator and engaging with both the Operations Team and estimating support team. Responsibilities
- Manage the full bid recap process, including the development of proposal letters and completion of bid forms and breakouts.
- Attend bid review meetings prior to the submission of proposals.
- Monitor all addenda, scope changes, and breakouts to ensure timely integration into estimates.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders regarding project specifications, project scope, reporting, value engineering opportunities, timelines, and other bid-related matters.
- Verify systems specifications summaries for accuracy and completeness.
- Lead assigned take-off teams in project page turns to communicate expectations and requirements for comprehensive and accurate take-offs.
- Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs for equipment and fixtures, thoroughly reviewing project plans and specifications to understand the full project scope.
- Identify gaps in labor, scope, and material pricing to ensure all estimates are complete and accurate.
- Review vendor and subcontractor scope letters for accuracy, maintaining communication with suppliers and subcontractors to address missing pricing and breakout details.
- Coordinate the pre-construction interface between sales and estimating, optimizing capacity and capabilities to meet sales and marketing objectives.
- Apply market condition insights, customer needs analysis, competitor benchmarking, and resource availability assessments to meet current and projected workload demands.
- Develop, monitor, and manage department processes to maximize productivity while maintaining acceptable risk levels.
- Work under limited guidance with broad general supervision to meet departmental goals.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support the objectives of the estimating department.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical contracting as an estimator or in a similar capacity.
- Thorough knowledge of piping, plumbing, and sheet metal systems.
- Experience with evaluating system costs across various applications and building types.
- Ability to provide comprehensive conceptual estimates for design-build projects and budgets based on mechanical system narratives.
- Experience participating in construction project presentations and interviews.
- Strong understanding of how corporate objectives influence estimating strategies and techniques for different construction contract types.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and contractual documents accurately.
- Relevant coursework or work experience in basic mechanical systems and engineering principles.
- Proficiency with computerized estimating systems, such as ESTMEP for PVF take-offs and BlueBeam for drawing management.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
