The Marine Project Engineer plays a vital role in supporting marine construction projects. This full-time position in Long Beach, CA, is focused on daily field coordination, production tracking, and ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in strict accordance with project specifications. The Marine Project Engineer acts as a crucial link between field teams and office staff, providing valuable support to superintendents and foremen, maintaining accurate records, assisting with scheduling, and coordinating materials. With the possibility of serving as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) or Quality Control (QC) Manager on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects, this position requires a commitment to safety and quality compliance, especially with EM 385-1-1 requirements.

Marine Project Engineer - Summary
- Support marine construction projects from field coordination to documentation.
- Serve as a liaison between field crews and project management teams.
- Ensure all operations adhere to safety and quality standards, especially on USACE projects.
- Contribute to the successful completion of complex marine and heavy civil construction initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Enforce and support compliance with MSHA, OSHA, USACE, and company safety policies and procedures.
- Lead and participate in safety meetings with field crews, ensuring a culture of safety awareness and hazard prevention.
- Monitor daily field activities for strict adherence to quality standards, maintaining detailed compliance documentation.
- Provide onsite assistance to superintendents and foremen in planning and executing daily work activities.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials for upcoming tasks, actively communicating with project managers and material suppliers.
- Verify field conditions, adjust work plans to optimize safety and efficiency, and address any unforeseen challenges.
- Track and document crew activities, production quantities, and equipment usage in detailed daily logs.
- Monitor material quantities and prepare documentation required for payment and progress tracking.
- Conduct progress surveys, assemble cross sections and bathymetry maps, and provide comprehensive project progress documentation.
- Assist in the preparation and adjustment of project schedules, identifying and resolving potential delays with the project team.
- Support technical aspects of layout, surveying, and documentation, including as-built drawings and progress photos.
- Be available for out-of-town assignments and occasional weekend work, as project demands require.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- At least 5 years of combined experience in field engineering, project engineering, project supervision, or management on marine or heavy civil construction projects.
- Valid California Driver’s license and compliance with company driving policy.
- Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
- Experience in construction document control, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, and progress payments.
- Physical ability to walk, bend, squat, lift up to 50 pounds, and climb in and out of marine equipment.
- Strong communication skills essential for effective teamwork and field operations.
Ideal Candidate Snapshot
- Experience working on USACE projects and familiarity with EM 385-1-1 safety requirements.
- EM 385-1-1 training for SSHO or QC Manager roles highly desirable.
- Hydrographic and/or topographic surveying experience, particularly with Hypack.
- Background in construction estimating and scheduling, with knowledge of HeavyBid, Excel, MS Project, and P6 Primavera.
- Demonstrates adaptability, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
