The role of a Maintenance Technician is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of commercial laundry plant equipment. This position is responsible for executing both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks, with a focus on supporting efficient production processes. The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment repair, contributing significantly to the overall productivity of the plant. In this full-time position, the individual will work closely with production supervisors and engineering teams to address any technical issues that arise, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal equipment performance.
The Maintenance Technician will be tasked with maintaining a high awareness of all assigned equipment during production operations. This includes monitoring machinery for potential issues, conducting regular inspections, and performing emergent repairs as needed. The technician must be proactive in identifying and correcting problems such as equipment jams, worn or missing belts, and missing ironer tape. When necessary, the Maintenance Technician will seek technical assistance from the engineering department to resolve complex issues that may impact production schedules.
In addition to hands-on maintenance and repair work, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining accurate records of all maintenance activities. This involves updating maintenance logs with information about incomplete tasks, new problems encountered, and actions taken to resolve issues. Communication with production supervisors is essential, particularly when equipment status could affect production or result in downtime. The technician must provide timely updates on the progress of repairs and notify relevant personnel when equipment is back online.
Collaboration is an important aspect of the Maintenance Technician role. The individual will often assist other technical and mechanical personnel, including outside vendors and contractors, to ensure that all maintenance and repair activities are completed efficiently and safely. The Maintenance Technician must also adhere to all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, confined space entry rules, and safe practices when working on hot equipment. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment is a top priority, both for the technician and for colleagues working nearby.
The ideal candidate for the Maintenance Technician position is team-oriented yet capable of working independently. The individual must be self-motivated, prompt, and adept at handling tasks as they arise. Strong communication skills are essential, as the technician will interact with various teams and relay important information about equipment status and maintenance needs. Technical proficiency is required, including the ability to operate tools and equipment safely, understand and apply safety procedures, and possess a solid working knowledge of mechanical drive systems, conveyor systems, and overhead rail systems.
