Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – School Nurse Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a full-time School Nurse position at an elementary school in Enola, PA. This opportunity involves providing individualized, 1:1 nursing care to a student throughout the school day, Monday through Friday, for approximately 37.5 hours per week. As a vital member of the school health team, the School Nurse (LPN) plays a critical role in supporting the health and well-being of students and staff within the educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive physical assessments and deliver direct clinical care to meet the daily health needs of the assigned student.
- Provide first aid treatment and emergency care to students and staff as needed, ensuring timely and effective response to health incidents within the school setting.
- Train school personnel on essential health and safety practices, including First Aid, CPR, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor their effects, maintaining accurate documentation in compliance with school and state protocols.
- Manage both electronic and paper health records, ensuring all student health information is current, accurate, and handled in accordance with confidentiality standards.
- Identify students who may require additional medical attention and facilitate appropriate referrals to healthcare providers or specialists.
- Implement Department of Health (DoH) policies and protocols, staying up-to-date with best practices and regulatory requirements in school nursing.
Required Qualifications
- Current or eligible Pennsylvania (PA) Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, with ability to obtain necessary PA Clearances before the start of the new school year.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents.
- Proficiency in computer use and familiarity with electronic health record systems.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information and demonstrate a compassionate, student-centered approach to care.
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing needs within the school environment.
