Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - School Nurse Job OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join a school setting as a full-time School Nurse for the 2025-26 academic year. This opportunity is located in McDonough, GA, and is designed to offer direct, 1:1 nursing care to a student throughout the school day, Monday through Friday, within an elementary school environment. This essential role ensures the health, safety, and well-being of students while supporting the school's mission to provide a safe and nurturing educational experience.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive physical assessments and direct clinical care to students throughout the school day.
- Deliver first aid treatment to both students and staff as needed to address injuries or sudden illnesses.
- Educate and train school personnel on First Aid, CPR, and the proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), supporting a safe school environment.
- Administer prescribed medications according to physician orders and school protocols, maintaining accurate records and adhering to all safety guidelines.
- Manage and update both electronic and paper health records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
- Identify and refer students who require additional medical care to appropriate healthcare providers or agencies.
- Implement Department of Health (DoH) policies and protocols within the school to promote a healthy environment for all students and staff.
- Accompany the assigned student on the school bus to and from school each day, providing nursing support as needed during transportation. Transportation time is considered paid work hours.
- Current, valid Georgia Nursing license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or eligibility to obtain licensure in Georgia.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR, demonstrating readiness to respond to emergencies.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, essential for working collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer use, including maintaining electronic health records and utilizing standard office software.
- Ability to show compassion, attention to detail, eagerness to learn new skills, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
