Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – School Nurse Position OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a School Nurse role in Dallas, PA, with immediate opportunities for the Extended School Year (ESY) summer session. This part-time, contract position runs from June 24th to July 31st and involves providing essential 1:1 nursing care for a medically-fragile student. The position requires working three days a week, Tuesday through Thursday, for approximately 3-4 hours per day, totaling around 12 hours per week. There is also potential for this role to transition into a full-time opportunity for the upcoming school year, starting in late August. However, candidates interested solely in summer employment are welcome to apply.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver 1:1 nursing services to a medically-fragile student throughout the school day, ensuring the student's health and safety are prioritized at all times.
- Accompany the student via school transportation from Monroe Township (Dallas) to Wilkes-Barre and back each day, with all transportation time compensated.
- Administer first aid treatment as necessary to students and staff, responding promptly to any medical needs that arise during the school day.
- Dispense prescribed medications according to physician instructions and maintain accurate medication administration records.
- Train school personnel in essential first aid, CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use, contributing to a safer school environment.
- Maintain and manage both electronic and paper health records in compliance with school and Department of Health (DoH) standards.
- Identify and refer students in need of further medical care to appropriate healthcare professionals as required.
- Implement Department of Health policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal student care.
- Current, valid Pennsylvania Nursing License (LPN) or eligibility to obtain licensure.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR; instructor certification preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and a high level of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated proficiency in both oral and written communication, as well as computer literacy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize tasks, multitask effectively, and demonstrate compassion in all interactions.
