In the role of Leasing Consultant, your primary focus will be to ensure a seamless leasing process for both prospects and current residents. You will greet potential residents warmly, offer informative tours of the property, and showcase the amenities and various floor plans available. Ensuring all inquiries—whether by phone, email, or online—are handled promptly and professionally will be key to building trust and satisfaction among prospects and residents alike.
Leasing Consultants are responsible for qualifying prospects, clearly explaining leasing terms, fees, and application requirements, and providing support throughout the application and approval process. You will also manage lease paperwork, renewals, and move-in documentation with accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring compliance with all company policies and legal standards. Keeping up-to-date knowledge of unit availability, pricing, and community incentives is essential, as is tracking leads and interactions using property management software such as Yardi or RealPage.
Collaboration is central to this role. You will coordinate with maintenance and management teams to ensure apartments are move-in ready and address any resident concerns promptly. Handling resident relations with courtesy and professionalism, and escalating maintenance or policy issues when necessary, is an important aspect of the Leasing Consultant's responsibilities. Consistently working towards—and achieving—weekly and monthly leasing and occupancy goals will demonstrate your commitment to supporting the overall success of the property.
Beyond the core leasing functions, you will be encouraged to participate in community events, open houses, and marketing initiatives such as managing online listings and social media engagement. These activities not only help promote the apartment community but also foster a sense of belonging among residents and prospects.
To excel in this role, candidates should possess at least one year of experience in leasing, sales, customer service, or hospitality. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential, as is a professional appearance and a customer-service orientation. The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, reliability, and punctuality are valued traits. Familiarity with basic math, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and comfort working with property management software will help you succeed in daily tasks. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required for off-site showings, and a high school diploma or equivalent is necessary. College coursework or a real estate license is considered a plus.
