Working in a dynamic healthcare setting, the Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-centered care in labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP) units. You will utilize your clinical knowledge to monitor patient progress, conduct assessments, implement interventions, and educate patients and families about childbirth, postpartum recovery, and newborn care. This role requires adaptability, clinical excellence, and a commitment to delivering quality nursing care in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures.
Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) - Summary
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to women and newborns throughout the labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum phases.
- Support the mission of providing care to service members, veterans, and their families.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and safety.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation according to regulatory and facility standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor triage patients with continuous fetal monitoring and conduct assessments such as labor checks, cervical examinations, and evaluations for pre-term labor and pre-eclampsia.
- Administer intravenous therapies, including fluids, medications (Pitocin, MgSO4, antibiotics, blood products), and provide pain management and emotional support to patients.
- Assist physicians and providers with labor inductions, cervical ripening, artificial rupture of membranes, and vaginal delivery procedures, including operative interventions (vacuum, forceps).
- Perform pre-operative care for Cesarean-sections, including shave-prep, Foley catheter placement, and intravenous bolus administration, while offering emotional support to patients.
- Facilitate newborn transition procedures, such as bathing, administering shots, initial assessments, and supporting breastfeeding initiation.
- Stabilize high-risk patients for transport, providing necessary interventions and emotional support as needed.
- Deliver patient and family education regarding childbirth, postpartum recovery, and infant care.
- Support Cesarean deliveries as the circulating nurse in the operating room and provide comprehensive breastfeeding support and education.
- Ensure accurate, up-to-date documentation in electronic medical records for all patients cared for.
- Deliver family- and patient-centered nursing care to infants and women of childbearing age.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution (ACEN or CCNE).
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in one of the 50 US states or territories.
- Minimum of one year of recent experience in Labor and Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum, or LDRP nursing (within the past 12 months).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Neonatal Resuscitation Provider-Advanced (NRP) certification preferred.
- US citizenship required.
