Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) - Summary
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to women before, during, and after childbirth. This position involves working 12-hour shifts, both days and nights, in a 36-hour-per-week schedule over a 16-week contract. The L&D RN will collaborate closely with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, midwives, and other nursing staff to deliver exceptional, evidence-based care throughout the childbirth process. This position requires both physical stamina and emotional resilience, ensuring patients receive the highest level of support and clinical excellence during one of life’s most significant milestones.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor the progress of labor and assess maternal and fetal health status using appropriate techniques and technologies
- Administer medications and manage epidural, spinal, and other pain relief interventions as prescribed
- Assist physicians and midwives during labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum care, including surgical procedures as needed
- Educate patients and their families on the labor process, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care
- Document all patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR) system
- Respond promptly to any maternal or fetal complications, initiating emergency interventions when necessary
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families during labor, delivery, and recovery
- Float to the Operating Room as required, assisting with cesarean sections and post-anesthesia care
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans
- Maintain compliance with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
- Be available for weekend and holiday shifts in alignment with department needs

Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)
- Minimum of two years of recent experience in a labor and delivery setting
- At least one year of prior travel nursing experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to float to the Operating Room and assist with surgical procedures as assigned
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays as needed
- Proficient in the use of EHR systems and strong documentation skills
