IT Project Engineer Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled IT Project Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis in Cranston, RI. This role is best suited for professionals with experience in the hospitality industry and a robust background in information technology, network management, and project coordination. As an IT Project Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of technology solutions, ensuring projects are executed on time and within scope, and supporting the technical needs of hospitality clients. This position is integral to maintaining operational excellence and delivering exceptional IT support services in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day activities of IT projects, ensuring all project milestones and deliverables are tracked and achieved efficiently.
- Coordinate project scope, set goals, and define deliverables in alignment with organizational objectives and client requirements.
- Estimate the resources and participants required to achieve project objectives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure adequate support and timely completion of tasks.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate detailed project plans to relevant stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status.
- Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks, and implement contingency and mitigation plans as necessary.
- Prepare and deliver project status reports and presentations, analyze project outcomes, troubleshoot technical issues, and recommend solutions for improvement.
- Follow up with team members to ensure timely delivery of project components and maintain alignment with project timelines.
- Stay current with the latest project management trends, best practices, and technologies relevant to the hospitality and IT sectors.
- Mentor and train junior staff and new hires, including onboarding through First Response Technician (FRT) training, to support client needs as the front-line technical contact.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the IT project management function.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 50-75% as required by project assignments and client needs.
- Flexible availability, including some on-call hours, to address urgent project or technical issues.
- Hands-on experience with hospitality systems such as Property Management Systems (PMS), PMS interfacing, room keys, HSIA, and digital signage.
- Expertise in Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and the unique IT requirements of the hospitality industry.
- Strong network and server management experience, including working with HP, Cisco, SonicWALL, and Ruckus networking equipment.
- Proficiency in WAN/LAN network engineering and daily operations, as well as configuring and installing software, servers, routers, and related network devices.
- Experience in hotel or resort environments, including PCI compliance and vendor management, is highly desirable.
- Solid project and vendor management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, attention to detail, and accountability in all aspects of work.
- Educational background in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are preferred.
