We are actively seeking an experienced Internal Medicine Physician (IM Physician) to join our outpatient clinic team on a locum tenens basis. This assignment offers a unique opportunity to practice high-quality, patient-centered care in a well-established outpatient setting. The position is based in a leading clinic serving the Madison, WI community and is scheduled to run from October 1, 2025, through March 1, 2026, with the possibility of extension. As an Internal Medicine Physician in our outpatient clinic, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs), ensuring comprehensive care for a diverse patient population. The clinic places a special emphasis on substance abuse, behavioral health, endocrinology, and diabetes management. The ideal candidate will bring a depth of experience in outpatient internal medicine and demonstrate a strong ability to manage complex patient cases while supervising and supporting mid-level providers.
This assignment offers predictable daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with an average patient volume of 16 per day. You will utilize advanced electronic medical record systems, including EPIC and Dragon Dictation, to support efficient and accurate documentation. Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive outpatient internal medicine care to adult patients
- Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions
- Focus on areas such as substance abuse, behavioral health, endocrinology, and diabetes care
- Maintain a patient panel and ensure continuity of care throughout the assignment
- Supervise and mentor physician assistants and nurse practitioners as part of a collaborative care model
- Document patient encounters and clinical decisions efficiently using EPIC and Dragon Dictation systems
- Maintain high standards of patient safety, privacy, and quality assurance

Qualifications & Requirements
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine is required
- Minimum two years of experience in an outpatient internal medicine setting
- Demonstrated ability to provide continuity of care for adult patients
- Experience managing complex patient cases and chronic diseases
- Previous hospital inpatient experience is preferred but not required
- Comfort supervising physician assistants and nurse practitioners
- Proficiency with EPIC and Dragon Dictation EMR systems (or willingness to learn)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
