Working in a dynamic and fast-paced inpatient environment, the Inpatient Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments, formulating and implementing treatment plans, and ensuring continuity of care for oncology patients. Inpatient Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA) - Summary
- Deliver advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adult oncology inpatients.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.
- Serve as a patient advocate, educator, and resource for both patients and their families.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical protocols.
- Engage in ongoing education to remain current with oncology best practices.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for oncology inpatients.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to inform patient care plans.
- Initiate and manage treatment regimens, including chemotherapy and supportive therapies as appropriate.
- Coordinate care transitions, including admissions, discharges, and referrals to specialty services.
- Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds and case discussions.
- Document clinical encounters and care plans accurately within the electronic health record system.
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Educate patients and families about disease processes, treatment options, and symptom management.
- Collaborate with the oncology team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, educational activities, and quality initiatives.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.
- Current, unrestricted NP or PA license; board certification as an NP or PA-C required.
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred or required.
- Demonstrated clinical experience in oncology, hematology, or inpatient medicine preferred.
- Excellent clinical judgement, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Commitment to ongoing learning in the oncology specialty.
