Injection Mold Technician Position Overview
The Injection Mold Technician plays an essential role in the manufacturing process by ensuring the efficient setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of injection molding presses, auxiliary equipment, and related production machinery. This full-time position is responsible for producing high-quality injection molded products in compliance with customer and plant requirements, while also contributing to continuous process improvements and maintaining a safe, organized work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and initiate molding machines to meet quality standards and production cycle requirements.
- Process machines following mold changes to optimize operation.
- Install, monitor, clean, and remove auxiliary equipment as required by production scheduling or process engineering directives.
- Diagnose production problems, make precise adjustments, and verify results to ensure targeted outcomes.
- Produce high volumes of quality injection-molded parts in a fast-paced production setting.
- Maintain work areas in accordance with 5S organizational standards to support safety and efficiency.
- Provide shift support by assisting other teams as needed during absences or peak times.
- Communicate machine concerns, issues, and status updates to other shifts and management during shift transitions.
- Report and document equipment malfunctions or tooling repairs to the relevant support departments.
- Monitor, track, and report required machine data and production metrics as scheduled.
- Demonstrate a customer-oriented attitude when interacting with internal and external customers, focusing on quality and service.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, decrease cycle times, improve operational efficiency, and minimize waste.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of production and operational goals.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required; candidates must be able to read, write, and communicate in English to understand written instructions, safety protocols, and documentation.
- 1-3 years of hands-on experience in injection molding machine setup or a closely related role.
- Solid understanding of plastic materials and injection molding equipment operation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with knowledge of electricity, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Effective teamwork skills with a willingness to support colleagues and work overtime as needed.
- Proficiency with computers, including Internet applications, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
Physical and Intellectual Requirements
- Regular walking, standing, reaching, climbing, and balancing are required; occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 10 lbs.
- Visual abilities include peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write routine reports and communicate clearly with colleagues and management.
- Apply trade calculation formulas and understand fundamentals of mechanics, material strengths, power, torque, and ratios as relevant to essential responsibilities.
- Demonstrate technical reasoning skills to troubleshoot issues, respond to emergencies, and suggest improvements.
Work Environment
The Injection Mold Technician will work in an environment regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and may occasionally encounter risk of electrical shock and wet or humid conditions.
