HVAC Controls Programmer - Summary
The HVAC Controls Programmer is responsible for designing, programming, and supporting building automation and HVAC control systems. This includes configuring and commissioning control devices, developing software and logic sequences, and ensuring seamless operation of systems such as Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, I/A Series, Andover Continuum, and Tridium Niagara. The programmer must also be adept at troubleshooting, resolving issues swiftly, and maintaining high standards of quality and reliability in all project deliverables. The role requires ongoing learning and staying current with industry best practices and evolving technologies in building automation.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, program, and implement building automation and HVAC control systems.
- Develop and configure control logic and graphical interfaces for user interaction.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in complex control systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with project teams, engineers, and field technicians to deliver integrated solutions.
- Support commissioning and validation processes for new or upgraded systems.
- Document programming logic, workflows, and configuration changes in compliance with company and industry standards.
- Ensure all control systems adhere to relevant industry protocols such as LON, BACnet, and Modbus.
- Provide technical support and training to end-users and internal staff as needed.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, updating skills and knowledge in emerging building automation technologies.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as an HVAC controls technician.
- Proven experience in programming HVAC controls and building automation systems.
- Hands-on expertise with control platforms such as Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, I/A Series, Andover Continuum, and Tridium Niagara R2/AX/N4.
- Working knowledge of building automation communication protocols including LON, BACnet, and Modbus.
- Excellent technical, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and process improvement.
Ideal Candidate Snapshot
- At least five (5) years of experience as an HVAC controls technician is preferred.
- Two (2) years of direct experience as an HVAC controls programmer is highly valued.
- Experience with Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Building Operation for at least two (2) years is a plus.
- Holding an EcoStruxure Building Operation Certification is advantageous.
- Familiarity with JavaScript and its application in building automation systems is considered an asset.
