HVAC Controls Design Engineer - Summary
As an HVAC Controls Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, reviewing, and optimizing control system drawings for HVAC applications. Your expertise will be integral in ensuring projects meet both technical and operational standards. The position is ideal for candidates with a strong technical background, analytical skills, and proficiency in electrical and mechanical systems related to HVAC controls.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop engineered drawings for HVAC control systems using industry-standard tools such as Visio.
- Review project specifications and contract drawings to ensure compliance with customer requirements and industry standards.
- Size and select appropriate control valves, dampers, air flow stations, and related equipment for HVAC systems.
- Design and document HVAC control schematics, integrating DDC control lines (such as Schneider Electric, Tridium, or similar platforms).
- Create sequences of operations for HVAC control systems and ensure clarity in documentation.
- Assemble comprehensive project submittals and operation & maintenance (O&M) manuals for submission and project turnover.
- Collaborate with internal project teams and external stakeholders to resolve technical challenges and ensure project success.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Effectively manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in controls design engineering or 5+ years as a controls technician.
- Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, HVAC principles, and controls systems is required.
- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with the MS Office Suite and Visio.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
