The HVAC Controls Design Engineer plays a pivotal role in the creation and development of engineered drawings and technical layouts for HVAC control systems. This position is responsible for ensuring that all HVAC control system designs meet the highest standards of accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with project specifications. The HVAC Controls Design Engineer will utilize professional expertise to review, interpret, and translate contract documents and specifications into detailed engineered drawings, primarily using Visio and other industry-standard software. The ideal candidate will be adept at sizing control valves, dampers, air flow stations, and other critical components of HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency. Knowledge of direct digital control (DDC) lines, such as Schneider Electric, Tridium, or similar, is highly valued in this role.
In this position, the HVAC Controls Design Engineer will also be responsible for creating and understanding complex sequences of operation for commercial and industrial HVAC systems. The ability to assemble comprehensive project submittals and operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals is essential. Daily responsibilities involve collaborating with project teams, reviewing engineering specifications, and delivering precise technical documentation to support the installation and ongoing maintenance of HVAC control systems.

HVAC Controls Design Engineer - Summary
- Responsible for creating engineered drawings and technical documentation for HVAC control systems

Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and detailed drawings for HVAC control systems and schematics using Visio and other design software
- Review project specifications and contract drawings to ensure all requirements are met
- Size control valves, dampers, air flow stations, and other HVAC system components
- Design systems utilizing DDC control lines, including Schneider Electric, Tridium, or equivalent platforms
- Develop and document sequences of operation for HVAC control systems
- Assemble submittals and operation & maintenance manuals for each project
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and installation teams to ensure project success
- Maintain high standards of technical documentation and ensure timely delivery of project milestones

Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field
- 1-3 years of experience in a relevant engineering or technical role
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in controls design engineering or 5+ years as a controls technician
- Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, HVAC systems, and control technologies
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and strong computer skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
