Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) - Summary
This Hospitalist NP/PA role focuses on managing inpatient care in a dynamic hospital environment. The position does not require procedural skills but does involve responding to codes and rapid response team (RRT) calls. The hospital features an open ICU, and the advanced practice provider will work alongside a collaborative team of medical professionals, including those specializing in Neurology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Cardiology, Oncology, and Gastroenterology. With a robust census and a strong infrastructure, the hospital ensures support for clinicians at every stage of their career. The facility uses the EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) system, streamlining documentation and communication across the care team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive inpatient care as a Hospitalist NP/PA, focusing on patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and coordination of care.
- Work 12-hour shifts, with options for daytime (8a-8p) or nighttime (8p-8a) coverage, ensuring continuous patient care coverage.
- Respond promptly to medical codes and participate in rapid response team (RRT) initiatives to enhance patient safety and outcomes.
- Manage patients in an open ICU setting in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team.
- Collaborate with specialists in Neurology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Cardiology, Oncology, and Gastroenterology to deliver holistic patient care.
- Utilize the EPIC EMR system for accurate and timely patient documentation and order entry.
- Participate in daily rounds as part of a coverage model with 10 day rounders, focusing on patient management rather than admissions.
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and best practices to maintain high standards of patient care and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Active state license as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) is required for this Hospitalist role.
- Board certification in an applicable specialty (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine) is mandatory.
- Current DEA registration or willingness to transfer the DEA to the state as necessary.
- Active ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification is required.
- Experience working in a hospitalist setting or inpatient care environment is preferred but not mandatory.
- Proficiency with electronic medical record systems, preferably EPIC.
- Excellent clinical, communication, and organizational skills.
