Hospice and Palliative Care Physician - Summary
As a Hospice and Palliative Care Physician, you will provide palliative care consultations for patients with serious illnesses across a hospital setting. Your primary responsibility is to deliver expert care, manage complex symptoms, and guide patients and families through challenging medical decisions. This position involves both inpatient and hospice consults, with a focus on interdisciplinary care and continual support for both patients and healthcare colleagues. The role is designed for physicians passionate about advancing the quality of palliative and end-of-life care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive palliative care consultations for patients with a range of serious illnesses throughout the hospital setting.
- Provide expert consultation and care for hospice patients, collaborating with nursing, social work, and spiritual care teams.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans focused on symptom management, comfort, and patient dignity.
- Engage in effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to facilitate care decisions and advance care planning.
- Participate in scheduled shifts, including Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, to ensure coverage and continuity of care.
- Share in a 24-hour call rotation, with on-site responsibilities one weekend out of every six, and telephone on-call coverage one week out of every six.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation, contributing to the ongoing assessment and improvement of palliative care practices.
- Participate in credentialing processes within the hospital, with standard timeframes ranging from 90 to 120 days.
- Adhere to all hospital and regulatory guidelines to maintain the highest standards of patient safety and care delivery.

Qualifications & Requirements
- MD or DO with board certification or board eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
- Active and unrestricted medical license (state-specific requirements apply).
- Demonstrated proficiency in palliative care principles, symptom management, and end-of-life care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and provide compassionate, patient-centered care.
