As a Histotechnician (HT, ASCP), you will perform a wide range of histopathologic and histochemical procedures essential for diagnosis, direct patient care, screening for diseases, and follow-up care. You will work closely under the supervision of the Histology Supervisor and utilize advanced laboratory systems such as CoPath Plus and MHS Genesis Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems to ensure precision and accuracy in all aspects of specimen preparation and analysis. Histotechnician (HT, ASCP) - Summary
- Perform specialized histopathologic and histochemical procedures for diagnostic, patient care, and disease screening applications.
- Operate and maintain advanced laboratory equipment and information systems, including CoPath Plus and MHS Genesis EMR.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to support optimal patient outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Apply technical and practical knowledge in performing a full range of standard and non-standard histologic procedures for diagnosis and training purposes.
- Utilize the laboratory information system, CoPath Plus, to determine appropriate protocols based on tissue type.
- Access and interpret specimen data using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, MHS Genesis, to identify the source and required testing profiles for surgical specimens.
- Order laboratory tests for specimens originating from various off-site locations using MHS Genesis.
- Perform order entry, specimen accessioning, and proofreading of gross descriptions within CoPath Plus, and gather relevant patient histories.
- Load, operate, and manage reagents for automated tissue processors to ensure optimal specimen preparation.
- Embed tissue samples into paraffin blocks, demonstrating proficiency in specialized embedding techniques for various tissue types.
- Section tissue using automated or manual rotary microtomes, producing high-quality 25-micron thick paraffin sections for analysis and control tissues as needed.
- Prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory or for external mail out, ensuring proper documentation and handling.
- Prepare and dispose of biological waste in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduate from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
- Hold Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- HT/Histology Certification or registration issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
- Minimum of one year of experience as a histotechnician in a clinical laboratory setting.
- U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
