As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating machinery such as excavators, skid steers, trenchers, and other specialized construction equipment. Your expertise will be vital for supporting installation, repair, and site preparation activities, ensuring all work is performed safely and efficiently in adherence to established protocols.
Heavy Equipment Operator - Summary
- Operate heavy construction equipment including excavators and skid steers for plumbing and utility projects.
- Assist with site preparation, trenching, grading, and backfilling tasks.
- Support plumbing crews with material handling, equipment placement, and site coordination.
- Conduct equipment inspections and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Work collaboratively with project managers and team members to ensure project success.
- Maintain compliance with all safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
- Contribute to a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy machinery including excavators, skid steers, and trenchers.
- Perform all aspects of site preparation, trenching, grading, and backfilling.
- Assist in the placement of plumbing materials and equipment as directed by crew leads.
- Conduct thorough pre- and post-operation inspections of all equipment in use.
- Report any maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors immediately.
- Comply with all company safety standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth workflow and project progression.
- Support general labor needs on-site when equipment operation is not required.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction, plumbing, or utility settings.
- Demonstrated proficiency with excavators and skid steers is required.
- Strong understanding of excavation safety, trenching protocols, and underground utility awareness.
- Ability to interpret site plans and follow detailed layout instructions.
- Valid driver's license; CDL is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety practices and job site compliance standards.
- Mechanical aptitude for basic troubleshooting is advantageous.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Comfortable climbing, bending, squatting, and working on uneven terrain, as well as sitting for extended periods while operating equipment.
